2004 continues Animals from the Carousel. The practice moved from Connecticut to Venezuela. The investigation of 2003, made on paper, moves to canvas and to a larger scale. The comparison stays the same. The carousel is a figure of a life. The structure is round, as the earth is round, and it turns. A line waits. The wheel stops. One group gets down. Another gets on.
What changes is the distance. The canvases do not show the full animal. Each painting is a close view of what the animal carries: the harness, the saddle, the pole, the ornament. The surface is built in broad strokes and heavy texture. The interest is not the body of the horse. It is the apparatus that holds it in place. In later years the series will open to the full figure. In 2004 it stays inside the detail.
The series found collectors. Commissions were made. That support made the larger work possible. Five canvases are shown. The others have not been located.

 

 

 

2004 continúa Animales del carrusel. La práctica se mudó de Connecticut a Venezuela. La investigación de 2003, hecha en papel, pasa al lienzo y a una escala mayor. La comparación sigue siendo la misma. El carrusel es figura de una vida. La estructura es redonda, como es redonda la tierra, y gira. Una fila espera. La rueda se detiene. Un grupo baja. Otro sube.
Lo que cambia es la distancia. Los lienzos no muestran el animal completo. Cada pintura es una vista cercana de lo que el animal carga: el arnés, la silla, el tubo, el ornamento. La superficie está hecha de trazos anchos y textura densa. El interés no es el cuerpo del caballo. Es el aparato que lo mantiene en su lugar. En años posteriores la serie se abrirá a la figura entera. En 2004 permanece dentro del detalle.
La serie encontró coleccionistas. Se hicieron encargos. Ese apoyo hizo posible el trabajo a mayor escala. Se muestran cinco lienzos. Los otros no se han localizado.
